Devolution Evolution continues and we enjoyed our first of two digital sharing evenings last night. Much like when the project was born in Lockdown it remains easier for us all to meet on Zoom as we continue to develop this artistic community.
We added 4 young, local artists to the Devo Evo mix in Summer 2021 who were asked to respond to the same theme of 'The Catalyst' and to come and see the work shared in Luton and share their thoughts on it.
Last night rapper & hip hop artist Lavs shared her brilliant rap which she had scribed as part of her early Devolution Evolution process. She wanted to talk about climate change, it isn't often rapped about, she explained.

Eco evangelism is a rebrand of doomsday doctrine it’s giving people whiplash sowing seeds into soil in drought it’s no surprise folks feel left out of the conversation of conservation yet they’re part of what makes up a nation we’re all connected yet the poor are scapegoated and hated the unseen only dream of utpoia going green doesn’t seem any easier now we can’t talk about place without speaking on race we mourn grenfell like it was yesterday black and brown bodies disposed and it’s commonplace x2 What can we do to reconcile with the earth that we’ve roamed for a little while? resources and redefinition recycle the knowledge reviving the distance
Is it really sustainable? when the lifestyle isn’t attainable? for all? we’re all connected like a sheep to their shepherd I affect you affect me for the record How do we keep life sustained? Without fear mongering To make real change never compromise tomorrow for today And be discerning of class and race It takes a village for a child to be raised - Saving the earth is exactly the same This is not a burden It is preservation We need education with the application - Let’s take a lesson from indigenous folks With deeper knowledge and respect for the land And we’ve got to give thanks Changes are happening Let’s be hopeful Even when it’s challenging Shift perspective There is now awareness We have got resilience Making a way in the thick of it We are evolving Problem solving Let’s be hopeful A new day's dawning
